Nathanael "Nate" Bargatze (born March 25, 1979 in Nashville, Tennessee [5]) is an American comedian and actor.[6][7] He started at "The Boston" in New York City. He's known for his special on Comedy Central Presents, has appeared multiple times on Late Night with Conan O'Brien and on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.[8][9][10]

Early life[]

Bargatze was born in Nashville, Tennessee. His diabetic[11] father, Stephen Bargatze, is of Italian descent and an internationally acclaimed comedian and motivational speaker with over 25 years of experience. [12]

Nate's sports career peaked early when he pitched a no hitter on April 23, 1990 for the minor Phillies.[13]

Bargatze attended Donelson Christian Academy[14] and later attended Volunteer State Community College, Western Kentucky University and Ball State University, taking speech, media and bowling classes.[15][16] Nate earned an "A" in speech class with a term paper focused on Vanderbilt football's successful 1996 campaign.[17] Nate's grandmother, Peggy Bargatze Sumner, was a professional bowler and is in the Bowling hall of fame.[18][19] Nate has even bowled a 266 high game, however he failed bowling class.[20]

Personal Life[]

Nate is 5'10" tall.[21]

His favorite sport to watch is UFC and he attended UFC 269 in Las Vegas.[22]

Even though he barely has a high school education,[23] his favorite college is Vanderbilt. As a child Nate's mother worked in the ticketing office for Vanderbilt.[24] He regularly plays golf with their golf team.

Nate does not listen to music in the car, preferring podcasts or talking with the passenger.[25]

In December 2021, Nate was listener diagnosed with type II diabetes.[26]

Career[]

Bargatze was part of Jimmy Fallon's "Clean Cut Comedy Tour" in 2013.[27] He won New York's Comedy Festival and the Boston Comedy Festival in the same year.[28] He wrote for the Spike TV Video Game Awards, and has performed multiple times for Coalition forces in Iraq and Kuwait. He was mentioned in Rolling Stone by Marc Maron as a "comic who should be big" and in Esquire by Jim Gaffigan as one of the top up-and-coming comics.[29][30]

In 2014, while auditioning for a Bud Light commercial produced by John Krasinski, Nate's car was vandalized and his backpack was stolen. His entire set list for his show was lost forcing him to rely on his dubious memory later that evening.[31]

His first album, Yelled at by a Clown (2014), made it onto the Billboard Top Ten Comedy Charts for two weeks, peaking at #2.[32][33] He released his second album, Full Time Magic, in coordination with his Comedy Central Special in May 2015.[34]

In 2017, Bargatze had a half-hour special released on Netflix as part of a six-part original series entitled "The Standups."[35]

On March 26, 2019, Bargatze released an hour-long Netflix special titled "The Tennessee Kid," filmed outside Atlanta, Georgia.[36]

His most recent standup special, "The Greatest Average American", was released on Netflix on March 18, 2021. It was filmed outdoors at Universal Studios Hollywood.[37]
