National Commission for Human Development

The National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) (Urdu: قومی ماموریہ برائے انسانی ترقی) was established in 2002 by General Pervaiz Musharraf, it primarily functioned under Cabinet Division but was later transferred to Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training under 18th Amendment. Its Head Office is located in Islamabad, Pakistan.Dr. Nasim Ashraf was the first chairman of NCHD. Ms. Nafisa Shah also remained the organization's Chairperson as well as Ms. Razina Alam Khan. The current chairperson is Col(R) Amirullah Marwat and the current Director General is Mr. of Secretariat Group. Mr. Orya Maqbool Jan of District Management Group also remained DG NCHD. Ms. Samina Waqar also took charge of being the organization's DG. Dr. Allah Bakhsh Malik, PhD PAS UNESCO Confucius Laureate and Federal Additional Secretary also served as DG NCHD. Dr. Malik later served as Secretary Education, School Education Department and retired as Federal Secretary to the Government of Pakistan in June 2020. Honorable Dr. Allah Bakhsh Malik is a renowned academic, researcher, author with erudite experience as management, institutional development specialist. Dr. Malik primarily focused on education and human development sectors and served at the top positions with distinction for a long time. He served as Secretary Education, leading one of the largest education system around the globe during 2017 -2019. He successfully ensured access, equity and quality in education and 'The Economist' of Feb 2018 wrote on his contributions and achievements. His services were recognized by United Nations - UNESCO and Dr. Malik was conferred UNESCO Confucius Award in 2011. He is popularly known as Educator to the Poor in academic circles. He also served in the highest rank of Civil Service of Pakistan BPS-22 grade as the Federal Education and Health Secretary of Pakistan.[1] Dr. Malik belongs to the Pakistan Administrative Service and is considered to be a management, human development and institutional development specialist. He has also led the professional teams in development sector in inter-sectoral, multi-temporal and cross-disciplinary fields in Education, Health, Governance, Institutional Development, Planning, Development and Reforms at national and international level.

National Commission for Human Development is a government organization whose mission is to improve access to basic education and healthcare in the country's poorest communities. The contribution of NCHD is tremendous and the organization won UNESCO Prize for the promotion of education in Pakistan, especially under-served areas.

NCHD is working in 134 districts of Pakistan.[1]
