NDEGWU TOWN-Briefing.

LOCATION:

Ndegwu is a small town- subdivision of Umuoha autonomous village in Owerri West Local Government area of Imo State located at 5.5314 N , 6.9636 E with an Elevation of 76.1m above sea level. Ndegwu is the third village among the five villages of Umuoha in owerri-west Local Government area including Ohii, Amakohia-ubi, Orogwe, Ndegwu , and Irete. Amongst all of which Irete is the last according to Hierarchy.


Ndegwu is further subdivided into five villages which includes; Umuekerekpu, Umuahum, Umuezu, Umuomara and Umuogwuta. Each of these villages have at least eight kindreds. There are many kindreds at Ndegwu , one of the most popular being the Umuejekubi kindred-Ugwuabanchi clan ( Prosperous and promising)

DIRECTION

Ndegwu is bounded by the east by Orogwe, west by Okwukwu, north by Amakohia ubi and south by Irete and the popular umuahum at the centre of the Town. one can easily access Ndegwu using GOOGLE MAP directions as the village is not hidden.

TOPOGRAPHY:

Ndegwu town is a Table land, hence good structures can be build and at ease. It may be regarded as a flat terrain, no mountain or hills. Ndegwu has no river body , but do have two swamps located at one of her villages (Umuezu) which have dried up to dry land. Far back as year 2000, the swamp was useful to the community.


URBAN DEVELOPMENT

Ndegwu is a fast developing community and rapidly advancing in all aspects. The town has graced from making use of water well to drilling of bore-hole at almost every building in the community.

Ndegwu is still growing and need investors in the aspect of Good schools, Hospitals , Mall, University , industries, and Estates. Residential areas should remain for residential purpuse while the other areas can be planned for erection of schools , hospitals, malls and estate Development. Angel Investors can key in and help the community grow. Very promising to the investors as the community has good road, water, Electricity , Good telecommunication Network and food.


PEOPLE

People of Ndegwu are welcoming. They are farm friendly, business oriented if which majority are educated. Their are some traditions and customs which the people observe and yearly. "Igba Oso Okorosha "

This tradition and culture is agelong as the village has been practicing it but the Era of Christianity in the community has reduced the rate.

Religion and Demographics[]

The people are predominantly Christians with a majority being Anglican or Catholic with a few Pentecostal Christians and pagans. Ndegwu people are hard working and heart warming people who value education to its core. The people are mostly farmers and business men who earn a living through that means. Ndegwu have an enabling environment that welcomes investors and people from all parts of the world. There are three government schools and some private schools which provides basic education for the people. The land is also blessed with good vegetation and mineral resources especially crude oil which is recently discovered. The place is rich in culture and is headed by a president general as the head of the community. Imo state is a predominantly Igbo speaking state, with Igbo people constituting a majority of 98%.[1]
