“Nicaragua”[1] was the national anthem of Nicaragua adopted in 1876 by the government of Pedro Joaquín Chamorro Alfaro. It was composed by J. del Carmen Vega, with lyrics written by F. Alvarez. It was used until 1889, when it was replaced by Marcha Roberto Sacasa.[2]: 15–17
During the early years of José Santos Zelaya’s administration, readoption of the music of this anthem was taken into consideration,[2]: 17 but ultimately a different anthem, Hermosa Soberana, has been adopted.[2]: 19
Lyrics (in Spanish)[]
Soldados, ciudadanos, a las armas
esgrimid las espadas con valor;
