Nick Sevastopoulos (born February 26, 1945) is a Greek former footballer who played as a midfielder.

Career[]

Sevastopoulos started playing at the youth level with Panathinaikos F.C. academy in 1956.[1] In 1963, he played with AEK Athens F.C. in the Alpha Ethniki where he played for five seasons.[2] In 1973, he played abroad in the National Soccer League with Toronto Homer in 1973 under the name Gus Hatoupis.[3] He returned to play with Toronto Homer for the 1974 season.[4] In 1975, he was acquired by league rivals Windsor Stars where he appeared in eight matches.[3] He was shortly released by Windsor as the Ontario Soccer Association notified the club over the confusion of his playing name.[3]

In 1976, he signed with Toronto Metros-Croatia of the North American Soccer League, and played in three matches.[5][6] Throughout his short tenure with Toronto he was deemed as an ineligible player by the Canadian Soccer Association as he was registered under his legal name as Nick Sevastopoulos, which caused a problem with the Greek Football Association as he failed to get permission to play abroad.[7][8]
