Nicola Ruffoni (born 14 December 1990) is an Italian racing cyclist.[1]

Career[]

He competed in the 2014 Giro d'Italia, but failed to finish within the time limit on stage 11.[2] He rode in the 2015 Giro d'Italia, but withdrew on stage 15.[3]

In May 2017, one day before the start of the 2017 Giro d'Italia, the UCI announced that Ruffoni and Bardiani–CSF team-mate Stefano Pirazzi had tested positive for growth hormone-releasing peptides in out-of-competition controls carried out the previous month.[4] Later that month the UCI confirmed that both riders' B-samples had also tested positive, leading Bardiani-CSF to confirm that they would terminate both riders' contracts.[5] On 14 December 2017, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) banned Ruffoni for four years,[6] and as a result, he was unable to compete until May 2021.
