Jane Marczewski (born in 1990 or 1991),[1] known professionally as Nightbirde, is an American singer-songwriter. After releasing two EPs and two singles, she received a Golden Buzzer at her audition on America's Got Talent in 2021, but was unable to compete in the quarterfinals because of worsening health due to cancer.

Early life and education[]

Claudio is from Zanesville, Ohio.[2][3] She has three siblings, and started songwriting at age six, when she helped her mother finish the lyrics for a song.[1] She graduated from Liberty University.[4][5]

Career[]

Marczewski uploaded her first songs and gave her first live performance in 2011, while a student at Liberty.[6] She released a three-song EP in 2012, on which she sang and played acoustic guitar.[1] In 2013 she released Ocean & Sky, a six-song EP that she funded on Kickstarter.[4]

Remaining in Lynchburg, Virginia after graduating, Marczewski was a popular performer locally. She returned to Ohio in 2014, and following her marriage, moved in 2015 to Nashville, Tennessee, where she later resumed performing under her married name, Jane Claudio, with her husband acting as her producer.[7] She adopted the professional name Nightbirde in 2019;[6] her first single under that name was "Girl in a Bubble", released in March 2019.[8][9] In April 2019 she opened for Tori Kelly at Liberty.[6][7] In August 2020, following her second cancer diagnosis and remission, she released "IT'S OK".[10]

Her style, a mix of folk and pop,[4] has evolved to become electropop.[9]

America's Got Talent[]

In June 2021, she performed as Nightbirde during the 16th season auditions for America's Got Talent. She received a Golden Buzzer from Simon Cowell for her performance of her original song "It's OK".[3][11][12] The song became No. 1 on iTunes[12] and No. 2 trending on YouTube.[5]

In August 2021, before she could compete in the show's quarterfinal round, Marczewski withdrew from the competition because of worsening health.[5][13]

Personal life[]

She is married to Jeremy Claudio, also a musician;[7] the couple separated in 2020, after which she moved from Nashville to Long Beach, California.[2][14]

She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017,[2][6][7] and declared cancer-free in July 2018.[8] Her cancer recurred in 2019, and she was given 3 to 6 months to live,[2] but she was again declared cancer-free in 2020.[10] Prior to the America's Got Talent audition, she was told that the cancer had metastasized to her lungs, spine, and liver and her chance of survival was 2%.[11][15]
