Niu Technologies (Chinese: 牛电科技; stylized as NIU) is an electric scooter company, headquartered in Changzhou, China.[1] Its CEO and COO has been Yan Li since December 2017.[2][3]

Early on, the company differentiated itself by using lithium-ion batteries, as opposed to cheaper lead-acid alternatives that were widely used in Chinese e-scooters at the time.[4] It had $300M in revenue in 2019.[5] As of November 2020, 98% of its sales were in China.

In 2018, the company was listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange under the ticker NIU.[6]

Niu have supplied scooters for several hire schemes. Revel Transit launched in New York City in 2019 with 1,000 Niu mopeds, since expanding to Washington DC, Austin and Miami.[7] In 2021 Lime began a pilot program in Washington DC and Paris.[8]

In 2021, Niu expanded its product line to include electric bikes.[9]
