NIVA American International School is a privately owned coeducational school located in Bang Kapi District, Bangkok, Thailand.[1] NIVA is a K-12 school with approximately 350 students. The international school was founded in 1991. It uses a North American curriculum as its academic foundation while also incorporating selected international curricula for its culturally diverse students. The school groups its educational levels into nursery, kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school levels. Teachers come from Asia, America, Australia, Africa, and Thailand. NIVA celebrated its 25-year anniversary in 2016 and celebrates its 30th anniversary in September 2021.

History[]

Founded in 1991, NIVA American International School (NIVA American) offers a vigorous education in a student-centered nurturing environment that uses California's Common Core State Standards (CCSS) as the main platform from Nursery to Grade 12. The CCSS is combined with other selected curricula from around the world to meet the needs of our student community.

NIVA American was established to provide a holistic education inspired by the Seventh-day Adventist Church's global education philosophy that aims to harmoniously develop its students intellectually, socially, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Our goal is to create future leaders founded on integrity through effective and nourishing learning systems and pedagogies in a conscientious, safe, healthy, and progressive environment where creativity, individuality, respect, diversity, equality, and environmental sustainability are actively promoted.

NIVA American creates opportunities for students to find and discover their own unique individuality, passion, and talents and realize their optimum potential by engaging them in diverse subject areas guided by highly qualified, skilled, experienced, understanding, and compassionate teachers and school personnel. As a result, our students grow up confident, mature, responsible, and ready to continue their education at the tertiary level and positively contribute to their communities and the world at large.

Nestled in a quiet, peaceful neighborhood of Bangkapi in Bangkok and away from the busy main roads, our seven-rai campus is well equipped with a wide range of sports and music facilities and science and computer labs and provides a safe, secure, and nurturing environment for our young learners to learn, play, and grow.

Name[]

The name “NIVA” was coined from the first two letters of Nicholas and Vanisara, the children of the school's founders. The current meaning of “NIVA” stands for Nurturing, Innovative, Virtuous, and Achieving: the hallmarks of NIVA American International School.

Curriculum[]

Originally a British curriculum school, Niva first offered private studies to overseas students who wanted to sit for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education examinations, though in time, it expanded to include younger students. Over time, it incorporated American and other international elements in its program. In 2004, the Thai Ministry of Education approved the school's American curriculum from Kindergarten through grade 12, allowing its students to follow an American/International path to graduation. All subjects at Niva IS, with the exception of Thai, Chinese and modern languages, are taught in the English language.
