Nizami is an opera, first staged in 1948, composed by Afrasiyab Badalbeyli to a libretto by Mammed Said Ordubadi.
History[]
In 1939, in connection with the upcoming 800th anniversary of Nizami Ganjavi, Afrasiyab Badalbeyli was charged with creation of an opera about the life of the great thinker and poet of the 12th century.[1] But, the premiere of the opera was postponed because of the beginning of World War II.
On December 12, 1948, the opera was staged in Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater for the first time.[2]
