OBB Media is an American multimedia production company and studio founded in 2016 by entrepreneur, director, writer and producer . The company is best known for producing film, television, podcasts and branded content. OBB Media is the parent company to OBB Pictures, OBB Sound, OBB Branded and OBB Cares. The multimedia production company and studio specializes in TV, digital, film, podcasts, branded content, and social good, and has amassed an audience of over 2 billion. Since its inception, OBB has carved out a stronghold in the new media space creating award-winning content.The company has its offices, post-production facilities and studios headquartered in West Hollywood, California.[1][2][3]

History[]

OBB Media was founded as OBB Pictures in 2016 by founder and CEO Michael D. Ratner[4] and co-founder and COO Scott Ratner with a focus on film, television and digital production. In 2019, OBB Pictures rebranded as OBB Media expanding into new realms of content creation adding divisions in podcasting, branded content and social good.[1][2][3]

OBB Pictures[]

OBB Pictures is the film and television division of parent company OBB Media. In May 2016, OBB Pictures produced Gonzo @ the Derby for ESPN's 30 for 30 series, which followed Hunter S. Thompson's trip to the Kentucky Derby and is directed by Michael D. Ratner and narrated by Sean Penn.[5][6][7]

In February 2018, OBB Pictures released Cold As Balls in conjunction with Laugh Out Loud Network. The series stars Kevin Hart as he interviews different athletes and celebrities while both interviewer and interviewee are sitting in cold tubs.[1][8]

In 2019, OBB produced Netflix's Historical Roasts,[1] an American comedy television series based on the Los Angeles live comedy show of the same name.

In 2019, OBB Pictures produced The Harder Way for ESPN+ alongside LeBron James and his Springhill Entertainment.[9]

In early 2020, OBB premiered a docu-series titled: Justin Bieber: Seasons, which sold for more than $20M.[10] The series received more than 32 million views on its first week of airing with YouTube Originals announcing it as the company's highest rated premiere in their history.[11]

Later that year, OBB Pictures produced &Music, a documentary series featuring Ariana Grande, J Balvin and Ozzy Osbourne, among others.[12][13][14]

In February 2020, OBB produced the music video for Justin Bieber's Intentions featuring Quavo which was directed by Michael D. Ratner.[15][16]

In October 2020, OBB Pictures released Justin Bieber: Next Chapter, a YouTube Originals documentary event that was a follow-up to the hit 10-episode docuseries, Justin Bieber: Seasons.[17][18]

It was announced in June 2020 that OBB would be spearheading a four-part documentary series on YouTube called Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil, following pop star Demi Lovato.The series was released on March 23, 2021.[19] Earlier that year, it was announced that Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil was selected as the Opening Night Headliner of SXSW and would have its World Premiere at the film festival. The film explores every aspect that led to Lovato's nearly fatal overdose in 2018, and her awakenings in the aftermath.[20][21]

In February 2021, OBB Pictures announced their follow up to Dancing with the Devil- a documentary project with French artist Thierry Guetta aka Mr. Brainwash.[22]

In March 2021, OBB Pictures partnered with Hailey Bieber to launch her YouTube Channel. Bieber and OBB will be creating a slate of short-form videos.[23][24] The channel reached a million subscribers within the first six weeks of launch.[25]

In April 2021, OBB Pictures released the music video for Demi Lovato's single Dancing with the Devil. The video, was co-directed by Demi Lovato and by OBB's Michael D. Ratner (who also directed the docuseries by the same name).[26][27]

In 2021, OBB created and produced the YouTube series Inside Kylie Cosmetics. The series is about Kylie Jenner and running her cosmetics brand, Kylie Cosmetics.[28]

OBB Sound[]

OBB Sound was launched in 2019, and is the podcast and audio division of parent company OBB Media.

In 2020, OBB's audio division, OBB Sound, announced the launch of a podcasts series featuring Blake Griffin titled “The Pursuit of Healthiness” as well as seasons 2 and 3 of an entrepreneurship show with model Ashley Graham called “Pretty Big Deal”.[1]

In October 2020, OBB Sound released Country Shine with Graham Bunn, a country music podcast with new episodes twice a week on Spotify. Billed as “the ultimate destination for fans of country music,” the series is hosted by Bunn co-hosted with sports reporter Camryn Irwin.[29]

In January 2021, OBB Sound and Rolling Stone released a new original podcast Too Long; Didn’t Watch.[30][31]

In January 2021, OBB Sound partnered with Audible to produce original audio series. Also announced was the forthcoming scripted 10 part possession horror series The Glowing, also for Audible, which is entering production in 2021.[32][33]

In March 2021, it was announced that OBB Sound would be partnering with Cadence 13 and Demi Lovato on a new podcast. Released in May 2021, 4D with Demi Lovato is a weekly podcast series in which Lovato hosts conversations with special guests about identity, creativity, activism, philanthropy, and beyond.[34]

OBB Branded[]

OBB Branded is the Clio award-winning branded content and partnerships division of parent company OBB Media.[35] The group has created content for brands such as Kylie Cosmetics, Lexus, Airbnb, Glenlivet, Old Spice, 818, Red Bull, LG, Michelin and Tinder.[36][37]

OBB Cares[]

OBB Cares is the philanthropic division of parent company OBB Media.[38] In February 2020, OBB produced the music video for Justin Bieber's Intentions featuring Quavo which was directed by Michael D. Ratner. he video featured an impact component benefitting the women featured in the video as well as the Alexandria House organization. OBB alongside Bieber, Scooter Braun Projects and Universal Music established the Intentions Fund with a $200,000 pledge and encouraged fans of the video to contribute to the organization as well. With help from the Intentions Fund, women at the Alexandria House have been able to continue pursuing their college degrees, secure housing, much-needed transportation, and maintain a sense of normalcy and security. As a result of the video, Alexandria House has seen an 800% increase in web traffic, donations from around the world, and increased exposure.[39][40]

Following the release of the Intentions music video, OBB and the clothing label Girl Gang partnered to create a capsule collection to raise funds for Alexandria House.[41]
