O Amigo do Povo

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

O Amigo do Povo (English: The Friend of the People) was an anarchist periodical published in Brazil around 1902 and published by Neno Vasco, , Ricardo Gonçalves, , Giulio Sorelli, Tobia Boni, Ângelo Bandoni and .[1]

The influence of this periodical on the libertarian movement was immediate and it was appropriated not only as one of the main spaces for dialogue and propagation of ideas in the Brazilian anarchist movement,[2] but also as a locus for reflection on issues related to "women's emancipation" by a number considerable notable women who went on to contribute to this publication. From the discussions that took place in it, Neno Vasco published an article refuting the thesis of naturalist Émile Zola about fertility.

The lifespan of O Amigo do Povo lasted three years, but it was fundamental for changing the conceptions about anarchism brought by Neno Vasco from Portugal.[2]
