The October Gallery is an art gallery based in central London.[1]

The October Gallery has shown international artists including El Anatsui,[2] Rachid Koraïchi, Dominique Kouas,[3] Romuald Hazoumè,[4] Nnenna Okore, Laila Shawa and Kenji Yoshida. The Gallery promotes the Transvangarde movement, as well as maintaining a cultural hub in central London for poets, writers, intellectuals and artists, hosting talks, performances and seminars.

History[]

Founded in 1979, October Gallery is a charitable trust that is supported by sales of art, rental of the Gallery's facilities, grants from various funding bodies and the active support of dedicated artists, musicians, writers and others.[citation needed].

From its beginnings, the October Gallery has promoted the art and artists of the Transvangarde or trans-cultural avant-garde. Since then, the October Gallery has exhibited the work of artists from more than 65 different countries, and from regions that include Africa,[5] Asia, Australia, the Americas,[6] Europe, the Middle East, India and Oceania.[1]

Recent shows have featured work by such artists as El Anatsui,[7] James Barnor,[8] Sokari Douglas Camp,[9] Eddy Kamuanga Ilunga,[10][11] Naomi Gakunga[12] and Alexis Peskine.[13]
