Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya (OAV; literally Odisha Model School) is a chain of schools are being set up, one at each of 314 block headquarters of Odisha State, India.[2]

History[]

Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya Sangathan was established on September 19, 2015, as a society under The Society Registration Act of Odisha. Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya was founded by the Department of School and Mass Education, Govt. of Odisha.This is the brain child of Hon'ble Chief Minister of Odisha Sri Naveen Pattanaik ,Odisha Adarsha Vidyalayas are imparting teaching in English medium at secondary level for the children specially in semi- urban or rural areas and to give scope to rural talents who are unable to afford English medium education.The General Body is the apex body of the Sangathan headed by Hon’ble Minister, School & Mass Education as Chairman. The Executive Body is headed by DC-cum-ACS as Chairman.

Basically Adarsha Vidyalayas will have infrastructure and facilities of the same standard in Kendriya Vidyalaya with stipulation on Pupil-Teacher ratio, ICT usages, holistic educational environment, appropriate curriculum and emphasis on output and outcome.

Objectives[]

  • To set up a Model CBSE-English Medium School one in each Block.
  • To standardize teaching and learning processes through well-defined manuals and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • To provide holistic education with focus on Body, Mind and Soul.
  • To give special emphasis on academics, sports, personality development and career development.
  • To train children in life skills and survival skills.
  • To provide adequate and quality infrastructure facilities with ICT to each School.
  • To act as a Lead School and provide support to the neighboring Schools.
  • To enable children from low-income families, attain quality English Medium Education.

These Adarsha Vidyalayas would be CBSE affiliated fully day boarding schools, provide free of education, and target talented students through an annual entrance examination. These would have Class VI through Class XII and each class would have 80 number of students. These schools would be administered through Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya Sangathan, a society registered under Society Registration Act of Odisha.

Progress[]

Total 214 Odisha Adarsha Vidyalayas have been made operational in 214 Blocks covering 29 districts in four Phases. Students in 100 OAVs have already appeared CBSE 10th Board Exam. 60 OAVs have been upgraded to Senior Secondary level. Besides, Government has approved to open Commerce stream at Senior Secondary Level in 30 OAVs (1st Phase). The bridge course has been introduced so as to facilitate easy transition from Odia Medium to English Medium.Concept mapping of Contents from class VI to XII , Development of Question Bank ,Minimum Learning Programme (MLP) have been incorporated in the ERP for accessing by different stakeholders.Development of “GyanaKosha” a supplementary reading material for students has been published.Coaching facilities for medical and engineering entrance examination is provided for meritorious students. Online salary disbursements of all OAVs are done through the ERP. Online teacher transfer module is being developed for implementation to facilitate ease of transfer operation & to maintain transparency.

The required furniture and stationery have been provided. The Mid Day Meal, free text books and uniform etc have been provided for the student up to Class-VIII. Besides, free text books have been provided to the SC&ST students of Class IX&X. 55 girl’s hostels (100 seated) have been established in different OAVs for girl’s students.

  • There are 32 rooms in ground floor and 32 rooms in 1st floor including 18 class rooms and other facilities.
  • The unit cost of 1st phase building is Rs. 3.02 crores and 2nd Phase building is Rs. 3.69 crores and now it is around Rs 5.00crores.
  • The Vidyalaya will have adequate ICT infrastructure and internet connectivity.
  • There is sufficient scope for sports and co-curricular activities.
  • Teacher pupil ratio is 1:25 and classrooms are spacious with class room-student ratio of 1:40.
  • There is provision of Art, Music and Computer Teacher besides subject teachers.
  • Special emphasis is given on teaching of Science, Math and English.
  • There is provision of well-equipped laboratories and library.
  • The Vidyalayas are affiliated to CBSE.
  • The Vidyalayas will have appropriate pace setting activities, so that Vidyalayas in the neighborhood can benefit from it.  
  • The classes will be from VI to XII having two (02) sections in each class with intake capacity of 40 in each section.
  • 21 teachers, 01 Librarian, one Junior Clerk-cum-Accountant and 03 class IV staff have been sanctioned for each OAV.
  • The reservation of seats for students will be as per the percentage of SC & ST population in the respective Blocks.
  • There is also a 50% reservation for Girls.
  • Separate uniform, logo, badges and belt etc. have been supplied to the students.
  • All efforts are being made to make it really a center of excellence.
