Olimpiu G. Urcan

Olimpiu G. Urcan (born 1977) is a historian, author, and journalist. Of Italian/Turkish heritage, he is a Permanent Resident in Singapore where he works as a consultant on education, advanced research and Humanities.[1] He is a FIDE Candidate Master in chess, with a peak Elo rating of 2210.[2] He has contributed history-related articles to a number of magazines and has authored several biographies of forgotten chess masters. His research is mainly focused on American history, and he specializes in largely-forgotten chess experts, with emphasis on immigrants. Between 2009 and 2015 Urcan ran a monthly chess history column at the ChessCafe.com website.[3] He is a regular contributor to Edward Winter's Chess Notes.

The Capablanca Project[]

On June 26, 2021, Urcan announced in Chess Notes the "Capablanca Project," [4] which comprises a scholarly pictorial biography, a graphic novel and a documentary.[5]
