OnePlus TV line-up was launched with the first Q1 series on 26 September 2019.[1] In September 2018, the company confirmed[2] it plans to venture into the smart TVs market with the OnePlus TV. The new division will be headed by the company CEO Pete Lau. OnePlus has later specified that the OnePlus TV will run a version of Google's Android TV operating system and that it will cost less than competing televisions.[3]

OnePlus expanded its product range to Television by launching the OnePlus TV Q1 on 26 September 2019.[1]

Campaigns[]

In March 2020, OnePlus TV Product Manager Todd Wang[4] launched a program called OnePlus TV Product Ninja for users of OnePlus to interact and co-create with the OnePlus TV Team.[5] Addressing the new OnePlus TV Product Ninjas program, Todd Wang, Product Manager for OnePlus TV, shared, “Ever since its launch in India, OnePlus TV has been garnering a lot of interest among our community and Indian users at large. By introducing the new community program, we hope to empower our community and play a more integral role in our product development efforts and help us set new benchmarks globally. As a community-centric, brand we look forward to working with a whole new set of creative minds in the country,[6][7][5]

Products[]

OnePlus TV Q1 and Q1 Pro[]

Launched on 26th September, 2019

After much discussion, plenty of teasers from OnePlus CEO Pete Lau himself, the first OnePlus TV, the OnePlus TV Q1 was launched on 26 September 2019.[8]

Both variants of the OnePlus TV feature 55-inch 4K-resolution QLED panels, with largely the same specifications. The only difference between the OnePlus TV Q1 and Q1 Pro is the presence of a built-in motorised soundbar on the more expensive unit.[9] The 50W soundbar has eight front-firing speaker drivers - two woofers, four full-range drivers, and three tweeters. The OnePlus TV Q1 also has a rated sound output of 50W, but without the soundbar speaker.[8]

The televisions also support Dolby Vision and sound formats up to Dolby Atmos, along with support for the HDR10 high dynamic range format. The OnePlus TV range has the Gamma Magic Colour picture processor, which is said to enhance picture quality.[10][11]

OnePlus TV Y1[]

Launched on 2nd July, 2020

The OnePlus TV 43Y1 and 32Y1 were launched on 2 July 2020.[12]

Both the TVs are powered by the company's Gamma processing engine similar to the Gamma engine in more expensive OnePlus Q series TVs—which improves picture quality by performing real-time image quality optimisations. It also brings features such as Adaptive Contrast, Random Noise Reduction, and Ultra Smooth Motion. With the new Y series, OnePlus has also introduced other features that reduce blur and ghosting. Of the two, the 43-inch variants come with full HD panels, while the 32-inch variant comes equipped with an HD-ready display.[13]

For the 43-inch variant, OnePlus has used a sturdy metallic frame to hold together the screen, the motherboard and other hardware of the smart TV. The TV offers an impressive screen-to-body ratio of more than 90 per cent. On the other hand, the 32-inch variant features a slightly lower screen-to-body ratio at 88-per cent but brings with itself a similar premium bezel-less design.[14]

The 32-inch model went on sale for the first time on July 5, 2020, and the smart TVs were sold out in just a minute. This was disclosed by the company via a tweet from its official Twitter handle.[15][16]

OnePlus TV U1[]

Launched on 2nd July, 2020

After launching the premium Q series TVs in India, the new OnePlus televisions are targeted at the affordable segment of the TV market in India. The launch which happened on 2 July 2020 included the OnePlus U1, which features 55-inch display size, with 4K resolution.[17]

The OnePlus 55U1 TV features the OnePlus Cinematic Display. The display panel features 93 percent DCI-P3 colour gamut coverage, HDR10 support, and Dolby Vision and Hybrid Log Gamma support. OnePlus has also added a Gamma Engine to the TV, which OnePlus has said will enable nine different picture modes on the TV. In terms of the design, the OnePlus 55U1 comes with 95 percent screen to body ratio, and at its thinnest, the body of the TV measures 6.9mm.[18][19]

OnePlus has also lent the TV a new speaker system, which has four speakers placed at 90-degree angles to the frame of the TV, with 30W audio output. The speakers also come with Dolby Atmos support. The TV will run on OnePlus’ custom Oxygen Play UI, which is based on Google's Android TV – the same firmware that runs on the OnePlus Q series TVs.[20][21][22]

OnePlus TV U1S (launched on June 10, 2021)

OnePlus TV U1S[]

Launched on 10th June, 2021

OnePlus launched another TV range called OnePlus TV U1S on 10 June 2021. The new 4K smart TV series has been introduced in three sizes: 50-inch, 55-inch and 65-inch.[23]

The OnePlus TV U1S series has HDR10+, HLG, and MEMC support as well. The televisions have slim bezels and come with 30W speakers with support for Dolby Audio co-tuned with Dynaudio. The U1S runs on the Android TV 10 platform with built-in apps for Netflix, Prime Video, and Spotify. There's built-in Google Assistant and Chromecast along with Miracast, DLNA, and Multicast. For running your application, the U1S features 16GB internal storage with 2GB of system memory.[24][25]

For connectivity, the OnePlus TV U1S features 3x HDMI 2.1 connectors (with HDMI 1 having eARC) along with a single optical audio output, analog AV input, Ethernet, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11n, and 2x USB 2.0 ports.[26][27]

The company claimed that OnePlus TV U1S is co-tuned with the Dynaudio to deliver an eminence audio experience.[28]

OnePlus TV Accessories[]

OnePlus TV Base Dock[]

The OnePlus TV Q1 did not come with a table-top stand included, only the Q1 Pro had it included in the box. Users buying the Q1 variant only have a Wall Mount included in the box. It is sold separately as an accessory on Amazon. The company sells it by the name of OnePlus TV Table-top Stand (Base Dock).[29]

OnePlus TV Netflix Remote[]

After receiving criticism on the OnePlus TV Q1's remote,[30] OnePlus launched a free Netflix Remote for the existing customers. For a few months after the launch of the Q1 TV, it did not have support for Netflix app, since Netflix required the TV makers to include a Netflix dedicated button on the TV remotes, so, the OnePlus TV Netflix remote was launched after the company noticed the user's feedback and Netflix's policy. The new remote has a different design and layout, and also has a dedicated Netflix button.[31][32]

OnePlus TV Camera, launched alongside U1S series on June 10, 2021

OnePlus TV USB Camera[]

The OnePlus TV USB Camera was a Plug-and-Play camera launched along with the OnePlus TV U1S. It has Full HD resolution with support for video calling via Google Duo on the OnePlus TVs, 2 noise cancellation mics and a physical privacy shutter and indicator LED light. It has a magnetic holder for docking it on the TVs.[33][34]
