The Open Society Foundation for South Africa (OSF-SA) is a South African non-profit grant-making organisation that supports the civil society sector. Its mission is to "promote the values, institutions and practices of an open, non-racial and non-sexist, democratic civil society."^[1] The foundation was established by George Soros in 1993, just prior to the dismantling of apartheid and South Africa's transition to democracy.^[2]

OSF-SA's Executive Director is who is a human rights lawyer and social justice activist. Before joining OSF-SA she was a lawyer for the Aids Law Project where she frequently represented the Treatment Action Campaign. She also clerked at the Constitutional Court of South Africa for Justice Kate O'Regan and later served as Special Advisor in the Health and Public Enterprises Ministries under Barbara Hogan.^[3]
