Orere Point is a rural township in the Auckland Region. It is located on the Hauraki Gulf just outside the Auckland metropolitan area. Facilities include a local store, playground, campground, picnic area, parking and limited mobility toilets. Activities include wild life watching, fishing and swimming.[3]

Demographics[]

Orere Point is defined by Statistics New Zealand as a rural settlement and covers 0.80 km2 (0.31 sq mi). It is part of the wider Kawakawa Bay-Orere statistical area, which covers 208.78 km2 (80.61 sq mi).[1]

The population of Orere Point was 345 in the 2018 New Zealand census, an increase of 57 (19.8%) since the 2013 census, and an increase of 21 (6.5%) since the 2006 census. There were 183 males and 162 females, giving a sex ratio of 1.13 males per female. Ethnicities were 297 people (86.1%) European/Pākehā, 63 (18.3%) Māori, 24 (7.0%) Pacific peoples, and 6 (1.7%) Asian (totals add to more than 100% since people could identify with multiple ethnicities). Of the total population, 42 people (12.2%) were under 15 years old, 21 (6.1%) were 15–29, 189 (54.8%) were 30–64, and 93 (27.0%) were over 65.[2]

Education[]

Orere School is a coeducational full primary school (years 1–8) with a roll of 42 as of November 2021.[4][5] The school was founded in 1890, and held a reunion in 2015 to celebrate 125 years.[6]
