Out on a Day Pass is the second studio album by James Young, a founding member of the American rock band Styx. The album was released in 1993. It is his first and only solo album to be credited as James Young, as his first album City Slicker was a collaboration with Jan Hammer, and his third album Raised by Wolves was credited as The James Young Group.
Steven A. Jones, who helped with the making of this album, has been longtime friends with Young, since they were in design school.[1] Jones has directed and produced multiple films, as well as music videos, including ones for Styx.
The album features founding Styx drummer John Panozzo on two songs, which would turn out to be the final piece of recorded music to feature him. The song "Young Man" is a cover of the Styx song released on their 1973 album The Serpent Is Rising.[2] Some of the lyrics and music are different from the original version.
There is an official music video for the song "Top of the World".[3]
