Péricles Aparecido Fonseca de Faria, also known as only Péricles, or Periclão (Santo André, July 22, 1969), is a singer, composer and Brazilian instrumentist of a vertent of samba, pagode. He was the vocalist of group Exaltasamba since the group's beginnings until late February 2012, when he decided to follow a solo career.

Biography[]

Péricles is ex-vocalist of group Exaltasamba. Not only singer, he plays instruments and is a composer. Before his musical career, he worked as a class inspector in two state schools and a car manufacturer in São Bernardo do Campo.[1] Péricles is the father of singer Lucas Morato[2] and is currently married to Lidiane Santos.[3]

Career[]

He joined Exaltasamba on the group's early years, in the late 80s. With the group, Péricles played for Jovelina Pérola Negra in clubs in São Paulo. In 2009, he participated in the recording of the CD and DVD O Baile do Simonal in Vivo Rio in Rio de Janeiro, where he played the track "Na Galha do Cajueiro" with Thiaguinho, his then group partner. In 2010, Péricles took part in the Christmas special show of composer and singer Roberto Carlos, in the Copacabana Beach, Rio de Janeiro. In the show, he sang "O Rei na Beija-Flor" (composed by Erasmo Carlos, Paulo Sérgio e ), a homage to Roberto Carlos. In 2011 he participated with his partner Thiaguinho, in the event "São João Carioca", in the Quinta da Boa Vista in Rio de Janeiro, sharing the stage with Elba Ramalho, Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Dominguinhos, and Geraldo Gimenes, and other invited artists. With Exaltasamba, Péricles recorded over 20 CDs and DVDs, travelling across Brasil in tours.

Since 2012, with the end of the group Exaltasamba, passou a seguir carreira solo. He recorded the DVD album "Sensações" in the dawn of May 5 of the same year, accompanied by 30 musicians, a string orchestra and 3 assistant singers. The album was released in CD and DVD formats by Som Livre in the same year, produced by Izaias, ex-member of Exaltasamba. One of the album's biggest successes is the song "Linguagem dos Olhos". The album also features Péricles' son, Lucas Morato, in the song "Linda Voz (Olá)". Also in the album Sensações, singer Luan Santana took part in the song "Cuidado Cupido". In the Blu-ray version of the album, the song "Minha Razão" was added as a bonus track, made for the soundtrack for the TV novel Avenida Brasil and previously recorded by Exaltasamba in the album Exaltasamba 25 Anos Ao Vivo, when Péricles was still part of the group. The album also contains "Dança do Bole Bole", made for the soundtrack of Salve Jorge. Also in 2012, the singer participated in Dança dos Famosos, of Domingão do Faustão.

In 2013, Péricles launched his second DVD, Nos Arcos da Lapa, with help from his brother-in-law João, recorded live in July 26, 2013, in Fundição Progresso in Rio de Janeiro. The album's first single was the samba "Se Eu Largar o Freio". Nos Arcos da Lapa also features singers like Xande de Pilares, , and . The album contains rerecording of songs from Fundo de Quintal, Jovelina Pérola Negra, , , , Soweto and Zeca Pagodinho. It also features the extra track "Pagode Nos Arcos", with Péricles and other samba singers.

In 2014, Péricles participated in the album Turnê 25° Prêmio de Música Brasileira – Homenagem ao samba, recorded live in the Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro. Also in the same year, the album Sambabook Zeca Pagodinho was released, in which Péricles played in the song "Talarico, Ladrão de Mulher" (composed by Serginho Procópio and Zeca Pagodinho).

In 2015, he played "Estação Derradeira" by Chico Buarque in the movie Chico – Artista Brasileiro Miguel Faria Jr. In the same year he launched the album "Feito pra Durar" and with Thiaguinho, Izaias and Chrigor Lisboa, ex-vocalistas do Exaltasamba, he toured as A Gente Faz A Festa.

In 2017, he released his second studio album, Deserto da Ilusão, with guests Djavan, Sorriso Maroto, Jorge & Mateus and ex-member of Exaltasamba Chrigor.

In 2018, he debuted as samba-enredo interpreter, sharing the microphone of Mangueira with . In the same year, he created the "Canal do Pericão", a direct link with his fans on YouTube, where he discusses various topics. Péricles founded his office, Farias Produções, and since then, managed his own career. His album Em Sua Direção, launched in 2018, was nominated for a Grammy Latino in the category Best Samba/Pagode Album.[4] The discs tour was managed by Lázaro Ramos.
