Plot[]

Ramarajan, lives in a village who spends most of his time by singing village folk songs himself. He meets Rekha, who hails from a rich family and falls in love with her. Rekha happens to be the illegitimate daughter of a rich man Ravichandran. Post Rekha's mother's death, Ravichandran takes Rekha along with him which angers Ravichandran's legal wife Sulokshana and her brother Anand Raj. Ramarajan and Rekaha decide to elope and get married fearing opposition from Ravichandran. Ramarajan comes to railway station and waits for Rekha, but she does not turn up. Ramarajan feels disappointed and assumes Rekha has ditched him agreeing to marry someone of her father's choice. Ramarajan boards the train and leaves to Madras. However, it is shown that Ravichandran fell sick on that day and Rekha decided to stay with her father taking care of him. Ravichandran passes away after a few days, but transfers all his wealth to Rekha in will which angers Sulokshana and Anand Raj.

At Madras, Ramarajan meets Kushboo and her music band. They are surprised by Ramarajan's voice and requests him to sing in his band. Ramarajan agrees and does some stage shows along with the music band. Ramarajan gains fame and popularity. Kushboo falls in love with Ramarajan and proposes, but Ramarajan turns it down saying that he is already in love with Rekha. Disappointed by this, Kushboo becomes a nun in a church.

Anand Raj tries to molest Rekha, but is saved by Sulokshana. It is shown that Rekha has transferred all the properties to Sulokshana and decided to leave the house. Rekha sees a news that Ramarajan will marry Kushboo which makes her feel dejected and she attempts suicide, but is saved. Hearing this, Ramarajan rushes to meet Rekha and understands her situation. Livingston, brother of Kushboo wanted to revenge Ramarajan as he did not reciprocate to Kushboo's love. Livingston stabs Ramarajan's neck and he gets admitted in hospital. Ramarajan decides to sing in a temple festival praying for well-being of Rekha, but is shot by Anand Raj. But he is saved by his chain dollar. In the end, Ramarajan and Rekha get united.
