History[]

Founded in 1921, Palm Beach Day Academy was the first incorporated independent school in Florida. Palm Beach Day Academy is incorporated as a non-sectarian, not-for-profit school. It has been a member of the National Association of Independent Schools since 1957 and is evaluated and accredited by the Florida Council of Independent Schools.

It was previously known as the Palm Beach Day School before it merged with the Academy of The Palm Beaches in 2007.

Palm Beach Day Academy has two campuses that are located 1.3 miles apart in West Palm Beach and Palm Beach, Florida. The Lower Campus, which serves students age 2 (Pre-Primary) through Grade 3, is located at 1901 South Flagler Drive in West Palm Beach. The Upper Campus, which serves students in Grades 4-9, is located at 241 Seaview Avenue in Palm Beach - a mere 5 minute walk to the Atlantic Ocean.

Students at Palm Beach Day Academy live in a school culture that expects and honors personal effort, achievement, and character. They are taught the value of sustained effort, focused thinking, open-mindedness, and consideration for others. Students do not simply attend school; they gain an enduring confidence that will allow them to speak up, attempt more, show compassion, question, and adapt to all challenges in an ever-changing world. PBDA's teachers are committed to finding the proper balance of nurturing support and challenging demands for each child. Their dedication goes well beyond time in the classroom to Enrichment, athletics, and extra help. The School's unofficial motto, coined by the beloved Upper Campus English teacher Mr. Greco, is "Work Hard. Be Kind." This characterization serves as more than a slogan; it’s lived by the children, teachers, and parents at PBDA.

Notable alumni include: Edward Albee, the American playwright best known for Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf?, A. Felix Du Pont, the Co-Founder of All American Aviation Company, later known as US Airways, Frederick Guest, a prominent women's suffragist who funded Amelia Earhart's flight across the Atlantic, and Ted Kennedy, the 1980 Presidential Candidate.
