Palmetto State Armory

Palmetto State Armory is an American firearms company based in Columbia, South Carolina. The name derives from South Carolina's official nickname, "The Palmetto State".[1] Palmetto State Armory operates several retail locations around the state of South Carolina and Georgia. Palmetto State Armory's website sells firearms, tactical equipment, reloading supplies, as well as fishing and hunting equipment.

History[]

Jamin McCallum established Palmetto State Armory in 2008 after leaving a career in accounting.[2]

Palmetto State Armory began with Jamin selling magazines and ammunition online by fulfilling orders out of his garage. Shortly after, Palmetto State Armory began producing its own firearms, and firearm components. The company now employs more than 200 people and is continuing to grow, with former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley calling it, "a valued member of South Carolina's thriving business community."[3]

Palmetto State Armory is a member of the JJE Capital family of brands. They also manage a number of different brands including, DC Machine, Ferrous Engineering, Lead Star Arms, PSA Defense, Palmetto Outdoors, Special Tool Solutions, and Spartan Forge. In September of 2020 JJE Capital also acquired DPMS, H&R, Stormlake, AAC and Parker brands from the Freedom Group bankruptcy auction.[4]

Product line[]

Palmetto State Armory is known for its line of AR-15 rifles and pistols, though, in the last several years Palmetto State Armory's line has expanded to include AKM style rifles. In 2019,[5] Palmetto State Armory entered into an exclusive contract with FN America to source the world's only FN AK barrel in the Palmetto State Armory AK-E (enhanced) rifle. The FN AK barrel is now offered in other variations of the PSA AK lineup, but the PSA AK-E was the first. FN AR15 barrel is also available with CHF (cold hammer forged) in the title.

PSA has now begun offering both the AK-103 and the AK-104, modern renditions of the classic "Century Line" of AK rifles made famous through Russian export of the 100 Series of AK rifles. These are AK-74 derivatives modernized in the 1990s but manufactured solely for export following the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991.

Palmetto has also produced a line of 1911 handguns,[6] AR-10 rifles, 9mm AR-style pistols,[7] and various rifle uppers from with a caliber assortment varying .22LR to .308 Win.

Retail locations[]

Palmetto State Armory has seven retail stores located in South Carolina, Georgia, and North Carolina. It also has an outdoor shooting facility located in Swansea, South Carolina. A Myrtle Beach location on the former Sun News building has been announced to open in 2022.[8]
