Paramakudi is a city in India and a municipality since 1964 located in the Ramanathapuram district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The river Vaigai flows through Paramakudi on its way to the Bay of Bengal. NH 87 and passes through this town, which connects the rest of the district to Sivaganga.

Paramakudi is located at 9.544°N 78.591°E.It has an average elevation of 41 m (135 ft).[citation needed]

Health Care in Paramakudi is provided by both government and non-government hospitals. This city has its specific government hospital in Kattu Paramakudi region. The other major non-government hospitals are Selva hospital, Jeevan hospital, S.A.Venkatachalapathy hospital, Vinayaka clinic and Roja children hospital.

It is well connected by rail and bus to other cities, with public and private bus services available within.

Road The NH 49 pass through Paramakudi. The Asian highway pass through this city is AH43. The state highway pass through this city are SH29 and SH87. The Paramakudi bus stand local and inter-district bus transports across the districts of Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Madurai and Viruthunagar. Every five minutes, a bus will go to Madurai.

Rail Paramakudi railway station is the second-highest income-generating station after Rameswaram in the district Ramanathapuram. Paramakudi railway station connects major cities across Tamil Nadu such as Chennai, Coimbatore, Tiruchirapalli, Kanya Kumari, Rameswaram, Salem and Madurai. The station also connects major cities across India such as Tirupathi, Allahabad, Hyderabad, Ernakulam, Okha, Bhubhaneshwar, Faridabad and Manduvadhi.

Demographics[]

According to the 2011 census, Paramakudi had a population of 95,579 with a sex ratio of 966 females for every 1,000 males, much above the national average of 929.[2] 9,292 were under the age of six, constituting 4,800 males and 4,492 females. Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes accounted for 14.5% and 0.08% of the population respectively. The average literacy of the town was 81.44%, compared to the national average of 72.99%.[2] The town had 23,504 households. There were 35,561 workers, comprising 825 cultivators, 881 main agricultural labourers, 6,682 in household industries, 23,453 other workers, 3,720 marginal workers, 113 marginal cultivators, 209 marginal agricultural labourers, 496 marginal workers in household industries and 2,902 other marginal workers.[1]

According to the religious census of 2011, Paramakudi had 86.55% Hindus, 9.2% Muslims, 4.11% Christians, 0.01% Sikhs and 0.12% following other religions.[3] Notable persons from this place include actors Kamal Haasan and Chiyaan Vikram.[4]
