Park Ji-hoon (Korean박지훈; born May 29, 1999) is a South Korean singer and actor. He is known for his participation in the reality competition show Produce 101 Season 2, where he finished in second place overall and became a member of the boy group Wanna One, which released several chart-topping albums and singles from 2017 to 2019. The group achieved both critical and commercial success, with six Korean topped-five singles. He also returned to the acting scene in September 2019, making a lead role on JTBC historical drama Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency.

Park first made his debut as a child actor, appearing as a supporting cast member on the MBC historical drama Jumong (2006) and earned roles in the several television dramas such as The King and I, Kimchi Cheese Smile and Iljimae. He also established himself as a musical actor through his participation in the musicals Peter Pan, The Harmonium in My Memory and Radio Star. With the conclusion of the group activities in January 2019, Park began his solo career with EP O'Clock in March 2019.

Early life and education[]

Park Ji-hoon was born on May 29, 1999, in Masan, South Korea.[1][2] Although he comes from Gyeongsang Province, Park has lived in Seoul since he was seven-years-old.[3] He graduated from National Middle School of Traditional Arts, where he majored in musical theatre.[4] Park majored in broadcasting arts at School of Performing Arts Seoul[5] and graduated in January 2018.[6] Park was accepted into Chung-Ang University’s Department of Theater for 2018.[7]

Career[]

2006–2016: Career beginnings[]

Park debuted as a child actor, participating in musicals Peter Pan (2007–2009), The Harmonium in My Memory (2010), and Radio Star (2010–2011), and in television dramas Jumong (2006–2007), The King and I (2007–2008), Kimchi Cheese Smile (2007–2008), Iljimae (2008), and more.[8] Park also appeared in SS501's reality show SS501 SOS (2006), although his face was blurred out through the episodes.[9] In 2007, he appeared in KM Idol War with Big Bang.[10] During his childhood, he continued to be active in musical theatre, television broadcasts, and film, as well as working as an advertisement model.[11]

Less active in the entertainment industry in his teen years, Park began training to become an idol singer under SM Entertainment and Fantagio. Due to a knee injury, he did not make it to the final line up of Fantagio's boy group Astro and subsequently transferred to Maroo Entertainment.[12]

2017–2018: Produce 101 and Wanna One[]

In 2017, Park represented Maroo Entertainment in the second season of Produce 101. He experienced a sudden rise in popularity after going viral as "wink boy (ko: 윙크남)", after the introductory "It's Me (Pick Me)" stage on M Countdown, before the show had started airing.[13] Consequently, Park's participation in the survival show received extensive media attention, to the extent that his self-made aegyo catchphrase "save you in my heart (ko: 내 마음 속에 저장)" trended on social media and was used by various companies using the phrase for marketing purposes.[14] The phrase was later crowned as the best catchphrase of 2017 by KOCCA.[15] Furthermore, Park received offers from various companies to become their advertisement model while the show was still being aired,[16][17] and it was later revealed that Park had signed an exclusive contract with Maroo Entertainment before the show had started.[18] He finished second, which made him a member of the project boy group Wanna One under YMC Entertainment. Wanna One disbanded on December 31, 2018 and officially completed activities after their sold out 4-day final concert series 'Therefore' that ran from January 24 to 27 at Gocheok Sky Dome.[19]

2019: Continued acting and solo debut[]

After Wanna One's disbandment on December 31, 2018, Park Jihoon started his solo career with Maroo Entertainment and he held his first ever fanmeeting 'PARK JIHOON 2019 ASIA FAN MEETING [FIRST EDITION]' on February 9 at Kyunghee University Grand Peace Palace in Seoul.[20] Followed by Taipei (March 2), Thailand (March 9), Philippines (March 15), Hong Kong (March 23), Macau (March 30) and Japan (April 10).[21]

On March 26, Park released his debut EP as a soloist, O'Clock, with the lead single "L.O.V.E."[22][23] Park Jihoon took his first-ever solo music show win with his Debut album "L.O.V.E" on KBS Music Bank on Apr 5, 2019.[24] The same month, Park was cast in JTBC's historical drama Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency,[25] which was aired on September 16.[26] Park received praise for his great acting skills and got many positive reviews for his debut drama (his adult actor career start).[27] Park Jihoon topping the list, ranked #1 in drama cast hot topic for 8 consecutive weeks (Good Data - Drama Actors Category and Racoi ranking) on his Flower Crew drama airing (2 months).[28]

In December 2019, Park Jihoon kicked off his solo fan-meeting tour, titled "FANCON ASIA TOUR". Beginning in South Korea, the tour was set to span cities in several countries including Seoul, Hyogo & Tokyo, Macau, Bangkok, Taipei and Jakarta.[29]

On December 4, Park released his second EP, 360, and its lead single of the same name.[30]

2020: The W and Message[]

More than five months later, Park returned with his third EP, The W, with the title track "Wing" on May 26.[31] Park Jihoon made several appearances on radio shows for his 'The W' promotion including Cool FM KBS Radio Show,[32] SBS Cultwo Radio Show,[33] Noon Hope Radio Show[34] and Sung Woon Late Night Radio Show.

Park Jihoon starred as the male lead in the Kakao M's Digital Drama, an adaptation of the popular Webtoon "Love Revolution" and played the role of Gong Juyeong, alongside Lee Ruby and The Boyz' Younghoon. The drama aired in the second half of 2020.[35] Park Jihoon's Love Revolution drama has surpassed 1 million views on KakaoTV and was #1 on the Top 10 weekly videos. Five first episodes have achieved the 1M milestone. His popularity is rising and viewers have praised his acting skills.[36] The song "Midnight" was recorded and released by Park Jihoon as part of the drama's soundtrack.[37]

On November 4, Park released his first studio album, Message, with the title track "Gotcha".[38]

Park Jihoon held his first ever online solo concert titled "Message" on December 13.[39][40]

2021: My Collection[]

On August 12, Park released his fourth EP My Collection, with the title track "Gallery".[41]

In April 2018, Park Jihoon was appointed for his first ever solo endorsement deal as a cf model for 'April Skin' Milk Booster Fast Shampoo.[63] The first round of presale for Park Jihoon's April skin product is sold out. And April Skin Model's Park Jihoon “Bromide Event” also Out of Stock. This event was held in the form of a gift of Park Jihoon's bromide when purchasing April skin hair products over 15,000 won. The turn-up color treatment 'Dark Brown' color containing Park Ji-hoon's appearance was sold out.[64]

Park Jihoon and Ong Seongwu was selected as model for CLAVIS bracelet starting from April 20, 2018.[65]

In 2019 March, Masita, a leader in the seaweed industry (Famous Thai Snack) reveals Park Ji-hoon as new presenter for their new “0% MSG” recipe five flavors; original, spicy, spicy Korean barbecue, larb and tomyum.[66]

The same month, March 2019, Park Jihoon and Bae Jinyoung selected as new advertising models for make-up brand "I'M MEME". I'M MEME official said Park Ji-hoon and Bae Jin-young, who are popular with female fans of various ages with their clean and pure images and shining visuals, are expected to have high synergy in line with the brand image of I'M Mimi, which is loved by female customers[67]

In March 2019, Park Jihoon became the main model for the South Korean cosmetic brand 4EVER&J LAB. Park Jihoon will be promoting the brand's facial masks and other products of 4EVER&J LAB.[68]

In 2019 May, Park Jihoon agency’ Maroo Entertainment announced that Park Ji-hoon has been selected as a new exclusive model for pizza specialty brand Pizza E-Tang. Park Jihoon's charm has been spreading to various advertisements and food service industries since he was alone, building a positive image of the brand. Park Ji-hoon, who is proud of high recognition, has recently emerged as a blue chip in the advertising world.[69] Pizza E-Tang's new menu, Shinsegae Pizza 2, is gaining explosive popularity as the first menu to be presented after Park Ji-hoon was selected as a model. Pizzaetang's new pizza flavor that Park Jihoon endorses kept getting sold out![70]

After being selected as an exclusive model for a pizza brand recently, Park Jihoon was selected as a model for Formoline L112 of Yuyu Nature, a healthcare company. Park Jihoon has proved his influence in the advertising industry by being selected as the main product model of the healthcare brand. He is the rising star in the advertising world. According to Yuyu Nature on the 3rd May 2019, Park Ji-hoon was selected as an exclusive model for the flagship Formoline L112.[71]

Park Jihoon was selected as model for Oppadak Chicken on June, 2019. Oppadak Chicken is a chicken franchise under the etang company.[72]

In 2020 June, Park Ji-hoon's first apparel collaboration and the first [LE] le ∙ [LA] la ∙ [LES] le project', "[LA] POMME de Universe" collaboration will be released. Park Ji-hoon participated in the design in this collaboration. The image of infinity in the universe was imaged, and a green apple with a fresh and refreshing image of a young man in his twenties was added to emphasize Park Ji-hoon's mysterious appearance. This collaboration is a meaningful project, they plan to donate a portion of the sales amount to charities and it will be delivered to organizations suffering from corona.[73]

The same month, June 2020, Park Jihoon had paired up with jewelry brand, Kapsul Collective, and designed his own bracelet. When collaboration photoshoot, Park Jihoon posed for the new collection 'ANGE' designed with a feather charm to present that angels are near. The collection include the signature of 'Purity' bracelet and signature 'Harmony' necklace to symbolize protection, hope and faith.[74][75]

Park Jihoon in collaboration with TOUS (for the "Love Me" perfume) for Star1 Magazine, in October 2020. Spanish fine jewelry brand TOUS released a pictorial with Park Ji-hoon. In this pictorial, Park Ji-hoon transformed himself sometimes cutely and sometimes stylishly like a pictorial craftsman, showing the perfect figure. 'Toss Love Me' is a new perfume commemorating the 100th anniversary of the brand's founding. Toss Love Me ranked best sale for perfume section and also sold out in Olive young Myeong-dong Store.[76]
