Patrick Ballantyne is a Windsor-born Canadian songwriter, guitar player and singer [1] based in Oakville, Ontario.

Life[]

Patrick was born in Windsor, ON.[2] He is a lawyer and songwriter who now lives in Oakville, ON.[3] [4] [5]

Career[]

Started writing with Gordie Johnson in the 1980s [6] and has also written with Colin MacDonald of The Trews,[7] Meredith Shaw[8] ,[9] Tim Chaisson,[10][11][12] and Shane Chisholm [13][14]

Patrick has performed at the Toronto Centre for the Arts[15] as part of the Bare Bones and Up Front Series.[16]

Although most frequently associated with co-writing with the likes of Gordie Johnson [18] and Big Sugar,[19] The Trews,[20] and Tim Chaisson,[21]

Days of Rain[]

Released in June 2014.[22] The release show was held at Musideum in Toronto.[23] The album differs from the first album in that it has more instrumentation (piano and string) than the first release[24]

  • The title track "King of the Road" was co-written with Meredith Shaw and Gordie Johnson. The song originally appeared in a different incarnation on Meredith Shaw's EP "Place Called Happy".[25]
  • The lyric video for "Wrestling with the Devil" was featured by Snob's Music as a Friday Find [26] and as a Mute Music Moment of the Day [27]
  • Re-released January 2015 under Northwood Records' label

Calendar[]

In 2015, Patrick Ballantyne started the sardonically titled "hitamonth.com" project, aiming to release a single every month for the year.[28] The 12 songs produced here were later included on Patrick's 2017 Album "Calendar". J Williamson of No Depression (magazine) wrote regardind "Calendar"; "With sounds encompassing everything from pop to Americana to psychedelia, Calendar presents the most well rounded picture of Ballantyne’s skills to date, all tied together by his honest, and often heartbreaking, storytelling ability."[29]
