Paul Ian Biran (Hebrew: פאול בירן‎; born 25 February 1969) is an Israeli mathematician. He holds a chair at the ETH Zurich. His research interests include symplectic geometry and algebraic geometry.

Education[]

Born in Romania, Biran's family moved to Israel in 1971. He attended Tel Aviv University, where he earned his Ph.D. in 1997 under supervision of Leonid Polterovich (thesis: Geometry of Symplectic Packing).

Awards[]

Biran was awarded the Oberwolfach Prize in 2003, the EMS Prize in 2004, and the Erdős Prize in 2006. In 2013 he became a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina.[1]
