Paul Cosford

Sir Paul Anthony Cosford KCB (May 1963 – 5 April 2021) was emeritus medical director at Public Health England, in which role he provided professional advice to the chief executive of that body.^[1] Cosford had executive roles from 2010 at PHE's predecessor, the Health Protection Agency, and transferred to PHE on its establishment in 2012 where he contributed to the response to emergencies including the 2014 Ebola outbreak and the 2018 Salisbury poisonings. A medical condition obliged him to step down from his role as Director for Health Protection and Medical Director in 2019.^[2]

He was appointed Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB) in the 2016 New Year Honours^[3]^[4] and Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath (KCB) in the 2021 New Year Honours for services to public health.^[5] He died on 5 April 2021.^[6]
