Peckoltia vittata is a species of catfish belonging to the subfamily Hypostominae of family Loricariidae. This species possesses the L-number L015

Description[]

Peckoltia vittata grows to around 10 cm and hence its alternative name of 'Candy striped Peckoltia' possesses black and yellow stripes vertically along its body.

Males can be distinguished from females by the presence of small teeth-like projections or odontodes along the back half of its body.

Distribution[]

Peckoltia vittata is found throughout the middle and lower Amazon basin in South America.

In the aquarium[]

Peckoltia vittata is a popular aquarium fish and requires a tropical softwater tank with temperatures of 22–26 °C and pH of around 6. It is often confused with the Panaqolus maccus.
