Peter Jüni is a Swiss physician. He has been the scientific director of the Ontario COVID-19 Science Advisory Table since its formation in July 2020 and works at St Michael's Hospital in Toronto.

Early life and career[]

Jüni was born just outside of Bern, Switzerland.[1] He graduated from Bern University and worked in Bristol University at the Department of Social Medicine before returning to Bern where he founded the Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) in 2007 and became Director of the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine in 2013.[1]

He moved to Toronto in 2017, where joined St Michael's Hospital and was appointed professor at the University of Toronto.[1] Jüni is the director of the Applied Health Research Centre (AHRC) at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute and the Canada Research Chair in Clinical Epidemiology of Chronic Diseases.

COVID-19[]

Since July 2020, he has been the scientific director of the to advise the government during the COVID-19 pandemic in Ontario.[2]

Some of his recommendations include better protections and paid sick days for the front-line workers who are disproportionately impacted by the disease.[3] He has at times been critical of the Ontario provincial government's response to the pandemic and has stated that "the government continues to ignore the advice of experts".[3]

Personal life[]

Jüni and his wife Elena have three or four children.[1]
