Planotortrix flammea is a species of moth of the family Tortricidae. It is endemic to New Zealand.[1]

Taxonomy[]

This species was first described in 1956 by using a specimen collected by him at Homer Forks Fiordland in mid January.[2][3] Salmon named the species Bactra flammea.[2] In 1966, John S. Dugdale placed this species with the genus Planotortrix.[4]

Description[]

The colour pattern of the adults is purple brown or orange brown.[5] There is a dark purple brown dot in the forewing disc.[2] The hindwings are whitish ochreous with a distinct purple or orange fringe.[5] It has been noted that the type population is more orange in appearance other populations.[5]

Distribution[]

This species is endemic to New Zealand.[1][6] It can be found in Gisborne, Taupo, Taranaki, Nelson, Buller, North and Mid Canterbury, Mackenzie country and Fiordland.[5] The species inhabits coastal to alpine habitat.[5]

Habitat and host species[]

The larvae feed on Hebe odora, Hebe salicifolia, Hebe stricta, and Hebe salicifolia.[5] Other hosts include Hebe elliptica and Hebe pauciramosa.[7]
