The Platinum Pudding will be a British pudding created by Fortnum & Mason in 2022 as part of The Platinum Pudding Competition to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.

Competition[]

The Platinum Pudding Competition is a nationwide baking competition launched throughout the United Kingdom on 10 January 2022 by Buckingham Palace, Fortnum & Mason and The Big Jubilee Lunch to find a brand new pudding dedicated to HM The Queen as part of the official Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022 marking the 70th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II on 6 February 1952.[1] The winning pudding will be an important part of the celebrations marking the Jubilee. The winner of the competition will be invited to be at the centre of the Jubilee celebrations.[2][3]

“The winning recipe will be made available to the public and the pudding will be enjoyed at Big Jubilee Lunches during the Jubilee weekend, and by generations to come,” the Palace said.[3][4][5]

The competition is being run on behalf of the nation by Fortnum & Mason, the royal warrant holder to HM The Queen for Grocers and Provisions. [2][3]

United Kingdom Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, Nadine Dorries, said: “The Platinum Pudding Competition is a wonderful way to celebrate Her Majesty’s 70 year reign and I know it will inspire people of all ages across the UK to get baking.” [6]

Fortnum & Mason[]

Fortnum & Mason developed the Platinum Pudding Competition throughout 2021 ahead of its launch in January 2022, where they oversaw the delivery of the competition across the United Kingdom.[7] Upon closure of competition entries, Fortnum & Mason chefs managed the process of filtering competition entries in preparation of the competitions final, which Fortnum & Mason are hosting at their flagship store on Piccadilly in central London.[7]

From the competition outset, Fortnum & Mason committed to sharing the winning recipe, ensuring it was gifted to the nation.[7]

Tom Athron, chief executive of Fortnum and Mason, said: 'We're proud to be launching the Platinum Pudding competition to celebrate and say thank you for the Queen's incredible 70 years of service.[8]

Competition Founders[]

The Platinum Pudding Competition was founded in 2021 by Fortnum & Mason, developing the original concept that was the brainchild of British diplomat and food, culture, and travel writer Ameer Kotecha and former British diplomat and curator Jason Kelly, who shared their idea with Fortnum & Mason in order to deliver it on behalf of the nation. [7][9][10]
