Pleasant Valley Country Club

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pleasant Valley Country Club is a country club in Sutton, Massachusetts. It is a par 72 that measures 6,988 yards from the "Gold tees."[1]

The country club has held many professional golf tournaments. The first professional tournament it hosted was the LPGA's 1962 Lady Carling Eastern Open. Three years later it hosted its first PGA Tour event, the 1965 Carling World Open. Arnold Palmer won the next tour event, the 1968 Kemper Open.[2] The following year, Pleasant Valley hosted the PGA Tour's AVCO Golf Classic. Under a variety of names, Pleasant Valley hosted the tournament for 30 consecutive years. It consistently had difficulty finding sponsors, however, and ceased to exist after the 1998 season.[3] It also hosted the LPGA Championship several times in the 1960s and 1970s, a major championship on the LPGA Tour.

Paul Harney, PGA Tour professional, was the head club pro from 1965 to 1973.[4]
