Plunderer (Japanese: プランダラ, Hepburn: Purandara) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Suu Minazuki. It began serialization in Kadokawa Shoten's Monthly Shōnen Ace magazine on December 26, 2014. The series is licensed by Yen Press. An anime television series adaptation by Geek Toys aired from January 8 to June 24, 2020.

Plot[]

Set in a post-apocalyptic world dominated by numbers, every human being has their worth measured by a special "Count" imprinted somewhere on their bodies, which defines any number related to an important aspect of their lives. However, if this Count decreases to 0, the person will be dragged down into "the abyss", and is said to be dead for all eternity.

For young Hina, her Count corresponds to how many hundreds of kilometers she has walked. Ever since her mother was dragged into the abyss, she has been searching for the Legendary Ace from her mother's last wish for the last five years. Hina's grueling journey takes a sudden turn when she meets a strange masked knight known as Licht Bach with a negative-numbered Count.

Characters[]

Licht Bach (リヒトー=バッハ, Rihitō Bahha) / Rihito Sakai (坂井離人, Sakai Rihitō)
Voiced by: Yoshiki Nakajima[2] (Japanese); Eric Vale (English)[3]
First appearing as a strange pervert wearing a mask, Licht is later revealed to be a Legendary Fabled Ace (powerful heroes that lived over 300 years ago where they put an end to the ongoing waste war) while seemingly carrying two counts (a ballot), it is hinted that he may have another. He is called the "Ace of Flashing Strikes" and the leader of the Legendary Aces, and also the first soldier to receive the Ace surgery. His designation was of a Colonel. He has feelings for Hina.
His count is −1001, the numbers of times he got rejected by girls.
His Ace ballot count is 5700 (57,000 in other personality). His count is based on the number of enemies he kills.
His Ace ability is light-speed movement.
Hina Farrow (陽菜=ファロウ, Hina Farou)
Voiced by: Rina Honnizumi[2] (Japanese); Sarah Wiedenheft (English)[3]
Hina is actually Licht's adoptive niece, being the daughter of Tokikaze Sakai and Tsukina Farrow. She possesses one of the original ballots which had been entrusted to her by her mother. She also has feelings for Licht despite him killing her father Tokikaze.
Her count is currently 760.
Her count is based on how many hundreds of kilometres she has walked.
Lynn May (リィン=メイ, Riin Mei)
Voiced by: Ari Ozawa[4] (Japanese); Elizabeth Maxwell (English)[5]
Lynn is a sergeant major serving in a small town in which she meets Licht and confronts him on being the Legendary Ace. She also develops feelings for Licht. She has a talent for martial arts, and is often insulted by Jail for failing to follow orders. She is later injured by Sonohara (Doan in the anime).
Her count is based on how many people she helps.
Pele Poporo (ペレ=ポポロ, Pere Poporo) / Gespenst Zerlegen (ゲシュペンス=ゼレーゲン, Geshupensu Zerēgen)
Voiced by: Aoi Ichikawa[4] (Japanese); Austin Tindle (English)[5]
Pele is a sergeant under Lynn who also holds feelings for her. Three hundred years back in time, he held an aptitude for the technology of that time. He is also secretly a SSU operative.
His count is 120, the basis for which not yet revealed.
Jail Murdoch (ジェイル=マードック, Jeiru Mādokku)
Voiced by: Yūichirō Umehara[4] (Japanese); David Matranga (English)

His ballot granted ability is control of iron which is based on how many convictions he has made.
His ballot count is 45,000.
Nana Bassler (ナナ=バスーラ, Nana Basūra)
Voiced by: Shizuka Itō[4] (Japanese); Caitlin Glass (English)

Sonohara treats Licht as her senior. She normally has a carefree and scared personality. But Schmerman forcefully awakened a dormant personality within her, making her more powerful and obsessive over Licht and also increasing her count. Three hundred years ago, her left hand was cut off by a rampaging Licht.

He tried to get her to drop out of the military academy because he felt that she was not fit for the battlefield. He is the only other Ace who fought alongside Licht in the Waste War. He currently hates Licht for breaking their promise by setting out to destroy Alcia. He sent Licht into a pit of gravity while he was escaping.
