History[]

Polimeks was founded in 1995.[2] In the same year, the company started its operations in Turkmenistan on a landscaping project for that country's Ministry of Health.[citation needed]

By the end of September 2011, the company had built 109 facilities, 106 of which were in Turkmenistan.[3]

Polimeks has extremely close links to the current President of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, therefore Polimeks will usually win the contract to construct and renovate numerous large buildings in Turkmenistan.[citation needed] The company's projects in Turkmenistan have included: Ashgabat Velodrome, Turkmenistan Independence Monument, Arch of Neutrality, Monument to the Constitution, Turkmenistan Tower, Alem Cultural and Entertainment Center, Turkmenbashi Airport, the Wedding Palace, the fountain complex "Oguzhan and Sons", Ashgabat Flagpole, and many other large projects.[4] In January 2013, the company received a contract to build the Ashgabat International Airport. Costing $2.1 billion in labor and operations, this is the largest construction project a Turkish firm has done abroad.[5]

In 2007 in Moscow, the company built the first Ritz-Carlton hotel in Russia, on the site of the demolished high-rise hotel Intourist, on Tverskaya Street. In Turkey, the company built a hotel in Eskisehir and a paper mill in Kazakhstan.[6]

The company has construction offices in Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, and China.

According to the American magazine Engineering News-Record, Polimeks occupied 62nd place in the 2015 ranking of "225 Largest International Contractors".[7]
