This article is about the authority on whist and bridge. For the building in Portland, Maine, see Portland Club (Portland, Maine) .
The Portland Club is a London card-playing game club and the recognised early authority on the games of whist and bridge . It is reputedly the oldest card club in the world. Founded some time before 1815 as the Stratford Club, it was given its present name in 1825.[1]
Having lost its own premises, the Club now meets in those of the Army and Navy Club at 36-39 Pall Mall, London SW1.[citation needed ]
