Priya Prakash Varrier (born 28 October 1999) is an Indian actress, model, and playback singer who primarily appears in Malayalam and Telugu films. Her wink[2] in the film Oru Adaar Love went viral, making her the most-searched-for personality through Google in India in 2018.[3][4][5][6]

Early life[]

Priya Prakash Varrier was born on 28 October 1999 to Prakash Varrier, a Central Excise Department employee and Preetha, a homemaker at Punkunnam, Thrissur in Kerala.[1] She attended school at Sandeepani Vidya Nikethan, Thrissur.[7][8] In 2018, Varrier enrolled in Bachelor of Commerce course at Vimala College, Thrissur.[7]

Career[]

Films[]

She played the role of Priya in the 2019 movie Oru Adaar Love, a romantic drama set in a school.[9] The trailer on YouTube, which includes Varrier winking, had received over 97 million views as of April 2020. Her wink was said to have gone viral.[10] The song "Manikya Malaraya Poovi" from Oru Adaar Love was deemed to be offensive by some Muslims, as the lyrics reference Khadija bint Khuwaylid. A first information report relating to this was filed against Varrier and the film's creators, and subsequently rejected by the Supreme Court of India.[10][11]

In 2019 the song "Nee Mazhavillu Polen," which Varrier sings with Naresh Iyer for the film Finals which starred Rajisha Vijayan in the lead role was released.[12] She was cast in the Hindi film Sridevi Bungalow, which was in production as of January 2020.[13]

She debuted in Telugu language in 2021 playing the second female lead in Check in which she played a honey trapper opposite Nithin and Rakul Preet Singh.[14]
