Proto-Abkhaz-Abaza (or Proto-Abazgi) is the reconstructed common ancestor of the Abkhaz and Abaza languages.

The consonant system is reconstructed[citation needed] with a four-way phonation contrast in stops and affricates, and a two-way contrast in fricatives.
