Proviantgården
Proviantgården or Provianthuset is a historic building on Slotsholmen in Copenhagen, Denmark.
History[]
Proviantgården was built as part of Christian IV's Arsenal Dock which made it easy to preparenaval ships for. The building was constructed between 1602 and 1609.[1] It was hit by first in 1626 and again in 1719. The naval dock was decommissioned filled in the 1860s. In 1992 the building was hit by a third fire.[2]
Building[]
The building is 163 metres long and two storeys high. Only the robust brick walls survive of the original building. A passageway, Proviantpassagen, runs between the west side of the building and the wall that surrounds the Royal Library Garden, linking Rigsdagsgården with the Christians Brygge waterfront. The building is listed.[3]
Current use[]
The building is now used by Folketinget's administration and also contains offices for MPs as well as reading rooms for the National Archives.
