Queen Anhye of the Yu clan (Korean: 안혜왕후 유씨; Hanja: 安惠王后 柳氏; d. 1 June 1232[2]) or formally called as Grand Queen Mother Anhye (Korean: 안혜왕태후; Hanja: 安惠王太后) was a Korean Royal Princess as the first daughter of Huijong of Goryeo and Queen Seongpyeong. She also become a Korean Queen Consort as the wife of Gojong of Goryeo who was her cousin.[3]
Life[]
The future Queen Anhye was born as the first daughter of Huijong of Goryeo and Queen Seongpyeong. She later married her sixth cousin, Gojong of Goryeo so their marriage is a relative-blood. She then changed her Clan from Kaeseong Wang (개성 왕씨) into Yu (유씨). Meanwhile, her mother in-law, Queen Wondeok (원덕왕후) was her fifth-degree aunt and also changed her original clan from Wang to Yu. Queen Wondeok was also the daughter of Princess Changrak (창락궁주).
In 1211 (7th year reign of King Huijong), Yu honoured as Princess Seungbok (승복궁주, 承福宮主) not long after her marriage with Gojong. Later in 1218, she become a Queen Consort following her husband's ascension to the throne. She later bore him 2 sons and 1 daughter.
However, Queen Anhye passed away in 1232 (19th year reign of her husband) which make her husband wear mourning clothes for three days and grieve over her death.[citation needed] She was given a Posthumous name Anhye (안혜, 安惠) by her husband. Later, in July 1260 (Lunar calendar), when their oldest son ascended the throne as King Wonjong, Yu was given another Posthumous name as Queen Mother Anhye (안혜태후, 安惠太后).
After her death, Gojong did not remarried again.
