Quinn Christopherson

Quinn Christopherson is an American singer-songwriter. He won the 2019 Tiny Desk Contest with his entry "Erase Me," a song exploring his experience coming out as a transgender man. Christopherson was recognized by NPR for his submission in the 2018 contest won by Naia Izumi.

Early life[]

Christopherson was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska.[1] He is Athabaskan through his mother and Iñupiat through his mother and father.[2] Christopherson grew up with his mother's Athabaskan family. His maternal grandmother was a storyteller from Tazlina, Alaska who later moved to Anchorage.[3]

Career[]

Christopherson was recognized by NPR for his 2018 entry to the Tiny Desk Contest won by Naia Izumi.[1][4] "Mary Alee," a folk song, is a tribute to his late grandmother.[2] for which he recorded a music video on Westchester Lagoon while it was frozen. He credits his grandmother's positivity and acceptance of his transitioning as being influential in his life.[4]

Christopherson won the 2019 Tiny Desk Contest. His submission, "Erase Me" explores his experience coming out as a transgender man. He recorded a live music video with his bandmate, Nick Carpenter, at the Anchorage Museum in front of a painting of Denali. Lucy Dacus praised his song as complex and captivating.[5] Pilar Fitzgerald called his video a "work of art."[6] "Erase Me" was one of over 6,000 entries in 2019. Christopherson will perform a Tiny Desk Concert and go on tour with NPR Music.[5]

Personal life[]

Quinn began transitioning in 2017 at the age of 25.[4][3] Due to the experiences of his grandmother, Christopherson does not drink alcohol.[3]
