Quinn Ewers (born March 15, 2003) is an American football quarterback for the Texas Longhorns. Ewers attended and played high school football at Carroll Senior High School in Southlake, Texas and began his college career at Ohio State University in 2021 before transferring to Texas after the 2021 season.

Ewers was previously considered to be the best collegiate prospect of the 2022 high school recruiting class before reclassifying and enrolling at Ohio State in 2021.[2]

Ewers is notable for becoming the first amateur athlete to land a $1 million+ deal upon taking advantage of NIL rules.[3]

Early life and high school[]

Ewers was raised in Southlake, Texas and attended Carroll Senior High School, where he played football and also previously played baseball.[4] As a sophomore, he completed 291 of 402 passes for 3,998 yards with 45 touchdowns and three interceptions.[5] Ewers and Southlake Carroll advanced to the Texas 6A Division I quarterfinals before being defeated by Duncanville.[6] Ewers finished his junior season with 2,442 yards and 28 touchdown passes in eight games, missing six games due to injury, as Carroll advanced to the 6A Division I Texas State Championship Game before losing to Westlake High School.[7][8] Following the season, he participated in the 2021 Elite 11 competition, but only managed sixth place in the competition.[9][10][11]

Going into his senior year, Ewers is considered by multiple outlets to be the top overall recruit in the 2022 recruiting class.[12][13][14] Ewers initially committed to the University of Texas on August 14, 2020, where he would have been the first quarterback since fellow former campus recruit Vince Young to receive a perfect 1.000 247Sports composite rating.[15] Ewers would later decommit from the Longhorns in October, before committing to play at Ohio State University on November 19, 2020.[16]

On August 2, 2021, Ewers announced his decision to forgo his senior year at Southlake Carroll and enroll at Ohio State a year earlier, joining the class entering for fall 2021.[17] Ewers attended summer school to complete the one class needed to obtain his high school diploma in order to do so. Ewers' announcement cited that Texas' UIL would not allow him to sign endorsement deals to profit from his name, image, and likeness.[18] In July 2021 the NCAA instituted new policies that would allow him to do so.[19]

College career[]

Ohio State[]

Ewers officially enrolled at Ohio State in August 2021 and joined the team for preseason training camp.[20] Ewers made his debut on November 20, 2021 against the Michigan State Spartans, taking two snaps at the end of the game in the Buckeyes' win over the Spartans.[21][22] On December 3, it was confirmed that Ewers would transfer to another school, after just one game with Ohio State.[22]

Texas[]

On December 12, 2021, Ewers announced that he would be transferring to the University of Texas.
