Rachel Slater (born 20 November 2001) is a Scottish cricketer who currently plays for Yorkshire, Northern Diamonds and Northern Superchargers. She plays primarily as a left-arm medium bowler. She made her international debut for the Scotland women's cricket team in January 2022.[1][2]

Early life[]

Slater was born on 20 November 2001 in Glens Falls, New York.[2] She is a triplet, and her mother is from Giffnock in Scotland.[3] Her parents moved from Leeds to New York due to her father's job before she was born, with the family moving back to Leeds when she was young.[3]

Domestic career[]

Slater made her county debut in 2019, for Yorkshire against Lancashire.[4] She went on to take 2 wickets at an average of 22.00 in the County Championship that season.[5] She only appeared in one match for the side in 2021, which was curtailed by rain.[6]

In 2020, Slater was named in the Northern Diamonds squad for the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, but did not play a match.[7] In 2021, she was added to the Northern Superchargers squad for The Hundred as an injury replacement player, and appeared in one match, against Southern Brave.[8][9] She was also retained in the Northern Diamonds squad for the 2021 season, and made her debut for the side on 28 August 2021, in a Charlotte Edwards Cup match against Western Storm, taking 2/16.[10][11] She went on to take five wickets overall in the Charlotte Edwards Cup at an average of 14.00, as well as two wickets in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy.[12][13] At the end of the 2021 season, it was announced that Slater had signed a professional contract with Northern Diamonds.[14]

International career[]

In January 2022, Slater was named in Scotland's squad for the 2022 Commonwealth Games Qualifier in Malaysia.[15] She made her Women's Twenty20 International (WT20I) debut on 18 January 2022, for Scotland against Sri Lanka in the qualifier tournament.[16] She played all four matches for Scotland in the tournament, but did not take a wicket.[17]
