Rahul Jandial, M.D., Ph.D. is an American, dual-trained brain surgeon and neuroscientist at City of Hope in Los Angeles, a hospital for cancer treatment designated as a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute. Jandial is an associate professor with expertise in the surgical treatment of cancers of the nervous system. His research focuses on brain tumors that arise from the spread of breast cancer cells into the brain (metastases).[1]
After completing his neurosurgical training and doctorate at the University of California, San Diego, he was accepted into fellowship at Stanford University and recruited as faculty at Harvard University[citation needed]. He chose City of Hope to launch his career and has been there since 2009. He also guest starred on Superhuman, the TV show.
Career[]
Neurosurgeon (M.D.)[]
Jandial earned his B.A. in molecular and cell biology from the University of California, Berkeley — his M.D. from the University of Southern California (USC), Los Angeles — and his Ph.D. from the University of California at San Diego (UCSD). Previously, Jandial worked as chief resident neurosurgeon at UCSD Medical Center. He was also a clinical instructor for the Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Currently he is an Associate Professor of Neurosurgery serving as a member of the faculty at City of Hope Department of Neurosurgery and Beckman Research Institute.
Neuroscientist (Ph.D.)[]
Jandial obtained his Doctor of Philosophy degree from University of California at San Diego (UCSD) in 2008. Jandial's published research[2] has appeared in journals such as Neurosurgery, Nature Medicine and Proceeding from the National Academy of Sciences. He has authored 10 books on topics ranging from neurosurgery to cancer biology and neuroscience.
Educator[]
Jandial is involved in community service through teaching, mentoring, and humanitarian efforts. At the City of Hope Graduate School of Biological Sciences, he mentors students toward earning their Ph.D. in cancer biology.[3] He is the founder and director of International Neurosurgical Children's Association,[4] which improves the standard of brain surgery provided to disadvantaged children in developing nations. INCA works with international missions and has renovated neurosurgical care in hospitals across Central and South America, Africa, and Eastern Europe. The efforts were highlighted on [5]
Media/Books/Awards[]
Media[]
Jandial is a contributor at KTLA-TV[6] and ESPN in Los Angeles. He hosted Brain Surgery Live on Nat Geo with Bryant Gumbell and was on FOX Superhuman as a panelist. Brian Lowry, Chief TV critic for Variety, called him the "world's most dashing neurosurgeon" in a highly positive review.[7] He is represented by the talent agency - WME.[8]
ABC news has called him the "real Dr. McDreamy"[9] and VICE features his stories regularly and refers to him as the 100 percent emoji-human version.[10] His Sunday Times bestselling book in United Kingdom was featured in Cosmopolitan, Mr. Porter and GQ.[11][12][13]
