It was released in June 1981 as the lead single from the live album Rainbow Stew Live at Anaheim Stadium. The song is about hobo living and, well stew and finding a better life. The song reached #4 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart.[2]

The song is a satire about the false promises of the environmental movement and suggesting that they are selling snake oil and that one day will be all drinking free bubble up and eating rainbow stew.
