Biography[]

He was born as a second child in a Hindu Manipuri Meitei family. His late father was a well-known school teacher and his mother is a house wife. His father was an excellent academician and stood 2nd position in BSc Zoology at the Dhanamanjuri University during his days. His father always wanted to pursue higher studies, but, later on, gave up aims and ambitions of pursuing higher studies upon his mother’s request. Both the father and the mother concentrated fully on their children’s education. His father, although a Biology teacher, was very much interested in science and technology. That is one of the main reasons that three of their sons became engineers and one, a policeman. His elder brother is a technical director and younger brother, a senior technical lead in multinational companies in Bangalore. His youngest brother is a sub-inspector in Manipur police. His early academic achievements started in 1988, when he secured 2nd position in the State Competitive Scholarship Examination[4] for class V all over Manipur and 1st position in the school entrance examination for the whole Thoubal district in Manipur. In early childhood, he was also greatly influenced by his maternal cousin grandfather Rajkumar Shitaljit Singh.

He earned his first class BTech degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay in 2000 and his Ph.D. degree from the School of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Nanyang Technological University Singapore in 2005. His doctoral advisor was Lei Zhu.[5] He is currently a Professor of EEE at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati and was the former Head of Center for Career Development from April 2018 to March 2020[6] [7] [8] [9] [10] [11] [12][13] .[14] Prior to joining Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati in September 2005 as a faculty member, he did Postdoctoral research from the department of Electrical Engineering, Pennsylvania State University USA from May–July, 2005 under mentorship of Raj Mittra and the department of Electrical Communication Engineering, Indian Institute of Science Bangalore from October 2004-February 2005 under guidance of K. J. Vinoy. During August 2000-July 2001, he worked with Mphasis as a software engineer.

He is currently serving as an Editor of IEEE Communications Letters, an Associate Editor of IEEE Open Journal of Antennas and Propagation [15] and served as an editorial board member of IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques[16] from 2005-2007. He has been in the technical program committee of IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC), Global Communications Conference (GLOBECOM), Asia Pacific Microwave Conference,[17] etc. He is well-known for his research works in the areas of MIMO wireless including MIMO antennas. Some of his recent invited talks are in IEEE Texas Symposium on Wireless and Microwave Circuits and Systems,[18] IEEE International Symposium on Antenna Technology and Applied Electromagnetics (ANTEM)[19] and Annual International Conference of Antennas Test & Measurement Society.[20]
