Rao (title)

Rao is one of the cognate Hindi variations of the (originally Hindu) title Raja(h) (like Rai, Rawal and ), used as equivalent royal style in certain princely states.

This title is used for Yadavs of Haryana in Northern India.[1]

Etymology[]

According to Abu Zafar Nadvi an early Indian historian.[2] Rao, Rai, Roy are same words and is the title of early rajput clans mainly Solanki or chalokya dynasty.[citation needed] and is one of from sixteen branches of Solanki clans. Pakistani historians Rao Muzaffar Husain and Mehjoor Ghullam Hyder Solangi are also agree on that.[3]
