Ratnakar: A New Myth of Love is a 2019 Indian Assamese-language action drama and romantic film directed by Jatin Bora[2] and produced by himself and Navanita Sharma under the banner of J.B. Production. The film features Jatin Bora and Barsha Rani Bishaya in lead roles with Nishita Goswami, Pabitra Bora, Chetana Das, Sanjeev Hazarika in supporting roles. The film also features Ashramika Saikia as a child artist. Jatin Bora called it his dream project. The film is inspired by the 2016 Vijay-starring Tamil film Theri.[3]

Plot[]

The film shows the power of love between a father and a daughter and how it heals everything. The story revolves around the struggle of a single father, the adorable bond he shares with his daughter, and how he overcomes every obstacle in their lives with courage and love.[4]

The movie starts with Jayanta, a responsible father from a remote village who will go to any heights for his beloved daughter, Dubori, who studies at the local school. After Dubori is publicly reprimanded by a teacher for low marks and insincerity, she turns to her father for support. Jayanta confronts the teacher, Daisy, explaining to her the struggles he has faced raising Dubori as a single parent. Daisy sympathises with his situation and decides to help Dubori in her studies, after which the two bond.

Some time later, street thugs tease Dubori and Daisy in a park. Instead of confronting the thugs, Jayanta runs away, leading Daisy to think of Jayanta as a helpless coward. That night, Jayanta, dressed as a robber, silently finds the thugs and beats them one by one. Unbeknownst to Jayanta, Daisy witnesses this punishment and is shocked. She asks Jayanta about his actual identity, and he reveals his past.

The story flashes back to Guwahati, when Jayanta worked as a gangster for a powerful businessman. The businessman had a daughter, named Manashi, who studied abroad. When she returned to her hometown for good, she met Jayanta and eventually fell for his kind nature upon seeing him run a social service for the elderly, whom he considered as his only family. The two began to date, although Manashi had no idea that Jayanta worked for her father as a gangster. However, Manashi found him frightening an innocent man with a gun (as ordered by Manashi's father), shouted at him, and left. Days later, Jayanta apologised to her and said that he only did all those for his old people in a harbour. Feeling for him, Manashi suggested Jayanta earn money through a satisfactory job and she would support him. Jayanta changed himself into a good person, resigned from working as a gangster, and found an ordinary job for the sake of his love. Subsequently, Manashi married him, opposing her father and her cruel brother. Both started to live happy lives together and Manashi became pregnant. The people in Jayanta's old-age harbour celebrated the news. Some months later, Manashi was involved in a car crash and taken to hospital, where the doctor revealed that Manashi died, but the baby was saved. Manashi's father wanted to take revenge on Jayanta by taking the baby from him, but Jayanta escaped with the baby and settled in the remote village.

Back in the present, Manashi's father, brother, and his men are still desperately searching for the child. They find Dubori and kidnap her. The story follows how Jayanta rescues and unites with his daughter. Manashi's father, realising his mistake, gives Jayanta the freedom to live a happy life with his daughter. The movie concludes with Jayanta, Dubori, and Daisy riding on Jayanta's bike; indicating how love heals at last...
