Rickie Haywood-Williams is a British radio DJ and television presenter best known for his work with Melvin Odoom and Charlie Hedges on Kiss FM, later BBC Radio 1 and the 2016 TV series Bang on the Money on ITV.

Early life[]

He attended the Riddlesdown High School in Croydon. At 16 he attended the BRIT School, gaining an A level in Media and a BTEC in broadcast journalism. He studied at the University of Bedfordshire, learning the tools of the trade at Luton FM. It was in Luton where he met Melvin and also actor and BBC Announcer Nii Odartei Evans.

Career[]

The Kiss 100 Breakfast show signed up Rickie and Melvin Odoom as their new hosts in 2007; then later Charlie Hedges as their co-host in 2009. The show won Silver at the Sony Radio Academy Awards 2009 for Best Breakfast Show.

Rickie & Melvin are currently presenting the UKHot40 Big Beats Chart on Kiss TV & Box TV.

Rickie presented MTV News bringing viewers up to speed on the hottest music news, the latest crazes and celebrity gossip as it happens. He has presented news from various red carpets, including the lavish MTV Awards and London's biggest film premieres.

Alongside MTV News, Rickie and Melvin presented MTV Digs on MTV One, Monday to Saturday between 1600 and 1900. Rickie and Melvin hosted MTV's big music show, MTV Music Junkie which was recorded within a live studio audience, interviewing some of the biggest and best music stars around at the moment, including Robbie Williams, Shakira and Mr Hudson. Together they have also hosted a week-long special on Big Brother's Big Mouth for Channel 4.

In 2010, Rickie & Melvin also presented the backstage online footage for the Sky1 series Must Be The Music.

Rickie filmed a BBC Three documentary, My Weapon is My Dog, which explored in depth the hip-hop and peer-pressure culture that has led to a growth in aggressive dogs and examining why many young men want to be feared. Following the success of this documentary, Rickie was seen presenting BBC Three's Cannabis: Britain's Secret Farms. Rickie set out to discover the true impact of the UK's skunk-smoking habit. Rickie accompanied Avon And Somerset Police on raids, rode in a heat-seeking helicopter as it uncovered cannabis farms with thermal imaging equipment, and met some of the landlords and homeowners horrified to find their tenants are really criminals who have ripped their property apart.

Rickie and Melvin also present celebrity interviews for The Hook Up on MySpace and have rubbed shoulders with artists such as Alicia Keys, Kelly Rowland and John Legend.

In the time Rickie spend away from Kiss and MTV, they both indulge in numerous aspects of social networking with followings across Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and their very own blog page called, 'Welcome to 21' which is updated daily. They have an active online presence and regularly DJ at club nights.

In 2013 Rickie and Melvin were team captains on the BBC Three panel show Sweat the Small Stuff. However, he did not return to the show for the second series. In 2014, Rickie and Melvin presented an episode of The Hot Desk featuring Mark Ronson. In Spring 2016, Rickie and Melvin co-hosted Saturday night game show Bang on the Money for ITV.[1] He took part in ITV's celebrity football match Soccer Aid in June 2016, playing for 'The Rest of the World' team due to his Sierra Leonean ancestry.

They presented the 2016 MOBO Awards in Glasgow.[2]

From April 2019, the trio moved to BBC Radio 1 to present late nights every Monday to Thursday from 9 to 11 pm. From September 2020 the show was moved to earlier 8 to 10 pm slot due to changes in BBC Radio 1 evening schedule.

In May 2021 it was announced that Rickie, Melvin and Charlie will be the new hosts of 10.30 to 12.45 am Live Lounge show. Their new show started in September 2021.
