Riri (荒井梨里, Arai Riri, born November 5, 1999) is a Japanese singer-songwriter. She debuted as a singer under , agency that is responsible by famed Japanese singer-songwriter A.I.. In 2018, it was revealed that she would release her debut album under Sony Music label.[1]

History[]

Riri started singing at 4 years old, inspired by American R&B acts such as Mariah Carey, Beyoncé and Whitney Houston. In 2011, she won the Next Generation Star singing competition hosted by David Foster. In 2012 she attended The Dream Support Project Award in New York City, making it her first performance in the US. In July 2016, she debuted officially as a singer under The Mic-a-holics Inc., that also manages singer-songwriter A.I., who produced her first official single, "GOLD" and her debut EP, I love to sing. In 2017, her second EP Rush was released.[2]

In 2018, she debuted under Sony Music Japan and released her debut album Rush. The album is produced by American producers Brian Soko and Damon Sharpe, who also worked with Ariana Grande and Beyoncé.[3]

On 28 November 2018, RIRI released her second album Neo. It includes the singles "Maybe One Day", "Honey" and a Japanese cover of Zedd's song "Stay". A collaboration song with Japanese R&B singer Shimizu Shota, "Forever" and American rapper Saweetie are included on the album as well.[4]

On 22 May 2019 she released EP called ,,Summertime" which includes singles ,,Summertime", a collaboration with Japanese rappers KEIJU and Nariaki Obukuro, ,,luv luv" which features South Korean rapper Junoflo and Japanese cover of ,,Dilemma" with Japanese rapper JP THE WAVY.

In 2019, Riri recorded the Japanese version of "Circle of Life" for the local release of The Lion King.[5] She was featured in the Japanese dub of Cats as the voice of Bombalurina.[6]

In 2020 she released her first single composed and written only by herself, called ,,Episode 0".

On 7 April 2021 she released single titled ,,Wheel of Fortune~Unmei no Wa", composed by her and UTA and again written only by herself. On 26 May 2021 came out English version of this song with new music video.

On July 2021 she announced that another single is coming. Song called ,,Luv DejaVu" was released on 22 July 2021 with music video that was premiered on YouTube. On streaming platforms Japanese version of this song has been released.
